JAMES SUCKLING
94-95/100

A dense and layered red with blackberry and blueberry character. Hints of stones and minerals. Full body and chewy tannins. Serious potential. April 2017.

JAMES SUCKLING
[CROIX CARDINALE] 91-92/100

Lots of crushed-stone, chalk and blackberry character. Medium body and a solid core of fruit. Focused and interesting. We will see but I like it. April 2017.

JAMES MOLESWORTH, WINE SPECTATOR
92-95/100

Well-endowed, with dark plum and blackberry puree notes forming the core, while a hefty dose of licorice-accented toast frames everything. Lush mouthfeel, though there is some energy rippling underneath. The fruit is copious and alluring, though this leans to the power/extraction side of the ledger. April 2017.

JAMES MOLESWORTH, WINE SPECTATOR
[CROIX CARDINALE] 90-93/100

This is dark and winey, with primal cassis, blackberry and raspberry fruit flavors forming the majority right now, though there are very enticing licorice snap, black tea and singed alder accents emerging through the finish. April 2017.

ANTONIO GALLONI, VINOUS
92-95/100

The 2016 Fleur Cardinale is utterly magnificent. Rich and sumptuous on the palate, it brings together luxurious, super-ripe fruit and striking aromatic freshness to balance things out. This is a stunning vintage for Fleur Cardinale in which all the elements come together to yield a complete, deeply satisfying and delicious Saint-Émilion. Jean-Philippe Fort is the consultant. Tasted two times. April 2017.

ANTONIO GALLONI, VINOUS
[CROIX CARDINALE] 30 TOP VALUE, 89-92/100

The 2016 Croix Cardinale is plump, juicy and absolutely delicious. Super-ripe red/black fruit, bittersweet chocolate, spice, leather and espresso build effortlessly in the glass as this sumptuous, racy Saint-Émilion shows off its flamboyant personality. Readers should expect a concentrated style built on richness and texture. There is certainly no shortage of character. Jean-Philippe Fort is the consultant. Tasted two times. April 2017.

JOURNAL D’UN PASSIONNE DE LA RIVE DROITE
93-95/100

Avril 2017.

VERT DE VIN
17/20

Beautiful dark purple red colour with purple hue. The nose is fruity / aromatic, gourmand, relatively fleshy, fineley powerful and offers elegance, a beautiful finesse, complexity and a fine concentration. It reveals notes of crushed blackberry, fresh/ripe wild strawberry and a hint of fresh/ripe berries associated with a discreet touch of crushed cassis as well as slight notes of spices, mocha (in the background) and a subtle hint of Sichuan pepper. The palate is fruity, juicy, well-balanced, finely fat, finely powerful and offers a fine tension, suavity, minerality, a good finesse as well as a good, silky and slightly unctuous matter. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fresh/ripe Boysenberry, fleshy cassis and fresh red berries, a touch of wild strawberry associated with slight hints of toasted oak, cocoa / tonka bean as well as a discreet hint of caramelization, wood, a very discreet hint of pepper and a subtle hint of sweet spices. Tannins are fine, well-built and finely chewy. Good length and persistence. The aftertaste is relatively powerful, gourmande and reveals slight notes of caramelization / toasted hazelnut. YVES BECK

2022–2051. Avril 2017.

JANCIS ROBINSON
17-/20

Dark crimson. Fresh, quite vital nose. Pretty dense and with a finish that is much more dry than sweet. Quite noble and ambitious rather than a quick route to sweet oaky stardom. Real structure here. Throbs on the end. Drink 2025-2040. April 2017.

JANE ANSON, DECANTER
92/100

Dominique and Florence Decoster know how to make textured, complex, silky wines that err on the side of big and bold. It’s a style that has some natural tempering in 2016, and there is some mouthwatering salinity on the finish. The mid-palate is closed down right now and the tannins are sizeable. 35hl/ha yield from 23.5ha planted to 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged in 100% new oak. Drinking Window 2027 – 2045. April 2017.
